Matchmaking is feature available in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive added as part of the October 25, 2012 update.
Matchmaking Calculations
The following systems have been added to try to improve players' matchmaking experience & make it more likely for players to be matched with others that are of similar skill groups and have not cheated.
Matchmaking Types
With the June 3, 2021 update, there are two different types of matchmaking, available for the Competitive, Wingman, and Danger Zone game modes: Ranked, where players' skill groups can be seen & factor heavily into finding other players, and Unranked, where players' skill are still calculated based on their performance, but skill groups cannot be seen & there are no restrictions on skill groups for partying with other players. Unranked matchmaking is a replacement of Scrimmage matchmaking - an unranked matchmaking system for community maps.
Ranked matchmaking is only available for players with Prime status, whilst Unranked is available for non-Prime players and Prime players that toggle "Ranked Matches" to "Unranked Matches" in the "Play CS:GO" window.

Pip matchmaking was introduced during Operation Hydra. Unlike Glicko skill rating system, the player can see how many matches they must win to rank up. Players get one pip per win match and they do not lose pips until they reach rank 5.
If the player is on a 2 or more win streak, the player gets 2 pips as a bonus.[1] The max rank is 24.[2]
